Our Process
Learn about our process and how we work with authors to produce their books. We operate efficiently but always with great attention and care to our individual client needs. Every author is different, and every story is different. We’re adept at understanding your needs and objectives, and then working with you to realize and execute your vision — perfectly.
Step 1: Initial Consult
In our first 15-minute consult, we’ll ask questions about your situation and needs to determine if we’re a good fit. If we think there’s a good match, we’ll proceed based on your preferences and project requirements. Typically, the process unfolds with an initial meeting and planning session, followed by subsequent meetings over Zoom to hear your story.
Step 2: First Meeting and Planning
We’ll schedule a Zoom meeting to discuss your goals and objectives for the book, your overall ideas, and more. In some cases, authors use this initial meeting to also start telling their story. We typically let this process unfold organically. Our team is adept at listening and, when needed, asking appropriate questions to draw out information and provide important context. After this meeting, we’ll plan the remaining meetings needed to hear your story and capture your voice.
Step 3: Zoom Meetings
We schedule Zoom meetings based on your availability and preferences. Typically, we need anywhere from 4-12 hours, broken up over multiple meetings, based on your scheduling requirements and preferences. Most authors have between 3-6 meetings ranging from 90 minutes to 4 hours each. We listen without judgment, providing support whenever needed. Authors often make themselves vulnerable and touch on difficult and emotional topics while telling their stories. We are here to hold space and be sensitive to your needs. Our meetings are a safe place where everything remains confidential.
Step 4: Planning and Writing
After meeting, hearing your story, and asking questions, our team will begin writing your book. We never outsource our writing; either our Principal or one of our Senior Ghostwriters will write your book from start to finish. After the initial draft, the manuscript will be sent off for the first round of editing. After this round of editing, we’ll perform rewrites to produce a second, polished draft.
Step 5: Editing and Review
When the manuscript is finished, you’ll receive a copy to review and the opportunity to provide feedback. We then make the requested changes. After your approval, we send the manuscript off for a final round of editing and proofreading to catch any remaining errors. Depending on the nature of the review required, this process can be quick or more time-intensive. Manuscripts requiring extensive legal or sensitivity reviews will be subject to additional processing times. We will always communicate these matters with you clearly and upfront.
Step 6: Design and Proofing
Our team handles the cover design and interior layout. You will always be able to provide input and final approval over cover art. We are adept at “wowing” clients with the covers we design. We want you to love your book cover, and we’ll work together to ensure we get it right.
Step 7: Final Review
Once the layout and design are complete, the book undergoes two final rounds of proofreading before publication. This is the last stage before publishing and distribution. At this stage, you can provide any last-minute input or feedback so that the published book is precisely what you envision.
Step 8: Publishing and Distribution
We publish your book and distribute it to all the major stores. If we built you a website as part of a marketing package, it will go live on your publication date (unless we’ve arranged for a prior launch.)
That’s it! You’re now a published author. Your story is preserved in print for your clients, audience, family, friends, and the general public. Your wisdom, experiences, and knowledge are available for anyone interested to learn. You’ve contributed important insights to your field, and your readers are undoubtedly grateful.
